This achievement was to teach the boys about the U.S. flag and how to properly present it. We brought in a flag and gave each boy the opportunity to learn how to properly fold a flag. We did the Pledge of Allegiance and learned the difference in saluting the flag in uniform and in regular clothes. We learned how to display the state flag with the U.S. flag and our pack flag. We ate Star Spangled Cupcakes, compliments of one of our supportive parents!
We sang the Star Spangled Banner and America, very badly, I might add. We ended this meeting with a BANG! Fireworks! In the ROOM???!!!! How, you might ask? PopRocks candy....what else!
The next meeting, we finished up our achievement on the flag. We gave the boys the opportunity to draw a design of what they thought our den flag should look like, and then went across the street to the Boy Scout house and the big boys assisted us with the outdoor flag ceremony and let two of our boys help them open their meeting by carrying the flags. We were so proud!
